Since a primary consideration in actual training is consistency, a key component of a training program is a process which details the roles and responsibilities of all involved staff. Ideally, a single animal caretaker works on a particular behavior throughout the behavior shaping process. Once trained, multiple animal caretakers then can maintain the behavior. Since some animals can tolerate multiple trainers, while others cannot, good communication among multiple animal caretakers is critical to success, e.g. having written descriptions or pictures of cues and criteria for the trained behaviors. Records about status of each behavior being trained, and about successes and challenges are also important.
